Our Curriculum

Learning is our core purpose at New Ideas Montessori Academy where we adopt a child-centered approach

Our educational approach prioritizes delivering engaging, pertinent, and stimulating lessons to equip our students for life.

Outstanding teaching forms the foundation of individualized support, ensuring each student reaches their full potential at New Ideas Montessori Academy.

How learning is organised:

18months to 5years (Pre-school)

In our classrooms, we utilize age-appropriate activities and educational tools to create a flexible environment that caters to the needs and interests of each child in our care. While we believe the Pre-school years should be filled with nurturing and encouragement, we also take pride in fostering independence and preparing our children for their future educational journey.

Ages 5 to 11 (Elementary School).

In Years 7, 8, and 9, students are instructed in mixed-ability groups for most subjects. We utilize data from the Year 7 Entrance Exam along with our internal assessments to ensure proper student placement. During Key Stage 3 (Years 7, 8, and 9), all students follow a shared curriculum tailored to meet their individual needs and interests. Emphasis is placed on English, mathematics, and science. Additionally, subjects such as humanities, creative arts, modern foreign languages, physical education, and sports contribute to a well-rounded education within an active learning environment.

Our curriculum and assessment methods are aligned with the British National Primary Framework. The Elementary School curriculum encompasses core subjects such as English, mathematics, and science, along with history, geography, information technology, music, art, physical education, French, and Nigerian Cultural Studies (NCS).

In the upcoming academic year, our focus will be on implementing standard assessment tests at Key Stages 1, 2, and 3. These tests provide an objective evaluation of each student’s progress and enable us to closely monitor their academic development.

Secondary School (11 to 16 years).

At this stage of our Learning Programme, New Ideas Montessori Academy has implemented a globally recognized curriculum that empowers our graduates to excel internationally with their qualifications. These credentials are accepted by many prestigious universities worldwide.

During the two-year programme, students will:

  • Study six subjects from six distinct groups
  • Complete an extended essay
  • Undertake a Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course
  • Engage in Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) activities
  • Study three subjects at a higher level, comprising 240 teaching hours each
  • Study the remaining three subjects at a standard level, comprising 150 teaching hours each

Homework

Homework is assigned regularly across all subjects, with expectations increasing as students progress through their education. We closely monitor the homework assigned to ensure it meets our high standards.

We also require students to record their homework in personal planners, which parents should review daily. We encourage parents to support their children by providing a quiet environment for homework, showing interest in their assignments, and offering praise and encouragement.
